LITTLE ITALY — WitKids will host a day of family-friendly service and remembrance on Sept. 11 in Amici Park. WitKids is a nonprofit organization which empowers and encourages children to make a difference in their communities. “Wit” stands for whatever it takes. The event will be held in memory of Special Forces Army Ranger Sgt. Casey J. Grochowiak who was recently killed in the line of duty in Afghanistan. At the event, WitKids will be collecting items to be included in military care packages that will be sent overseas. Requested items are instant or ground coffee, travel size baby-wipes, liquid hand sanitizer, prepaid phone cards, small flashlights, sunflower seeds and beef jerky. While there, children can design “thank-you” cards which will be sent with the care packages to military men and women. For more information visit www.witkids.org.
