Jana Ann Bridal Couture now has opened a second flagship boutique at Westfield UTC in La Jolla. The sister location is situated in Del Mar Plaza. They are bridal design experts in custom couture and plus-size wedding gowns. Brides fly in from around the world for this couture work with fine attention to detail that includes hand-beading, Swarovski crystals, and Chantilly lace.
First, Jana Ann sketches the bride’s ideas and then designs them step by step with photos until they reach their dream dress. The bride needs to allow two months for the wedding gown.
The dresses come in every size, shape, fabric, and style. Jana Ann has found a niche market with one of their collections, the plus-size wedding gowns. In all of America, they are the largest plus-size collection with sizes ranging from 18-32 for women.
Recently, her plus-size collection was featured on TLC’s TV show, “Curvy Brides.” The TV series revolves around Curvaceous Couture Bridal, a bridal salon catering to plus-size women in Columbia, Md.
Jana Ann debuted her bridal collection in 2014. She has combined her passion for fashion with an engineering background to become a leading bridal couture designer. Jana Ann works with each bride to create a one-of-a-kind gown. They have expert tailors who customize the gown to fit perfectly.
I asked Jana what was trending in bridal, and she said that people have downsized weddings. They are having fewer guests and smaller budgets. The ballgown silhouette hasn’t been popular for the last three years. Current wedding gowns are fitted and soft. Some are made from sateen and there is nothing puffy. Jana Ann said that another important aspect is to have a matching veil.
Currently, Jana Ann has two collections a year. They have buyers who come to La Jolla to see the collections. They sell to 40 authorized retailers coast to coast, including Canada and Mexico. Her designs are sold internationally in Dubai, Lebanon, Japan, and Korea.
I asked Jana Ann what lies ahead for her boutiques. They will offer more affordable collections for those on a smaller budget. She is planning to open a third store in San Diego County. To visit this UTC boutique, the showroom is open seven days a week, or visit www.janaann.com.
