Is your pet ‘banner-worthy?’ Ocean Beach looking to celebrate local pets

Does a photo of your dog or other pet deserve to be on a community banner along Newport Avenue or Sunset Cliffs Boulevard?
Those believing so should enter Ocean Beach MainStreet Association’s “Pets of OB” photo contest honoring the pet-friendly beach community and celebrating Dog Beach being named San Diego’s “Best Dog Park.”
For a $10 per-pet entry fee, banner-worthy, high-resolution digital photos with the main focus being Ocean Beach’s dogs (or other animals) can be submitted at oceanbeachsandiego.com. In the checkout form online under “order comments,” submit a 50-word maximum message about the pet with their name, breed and any stories about them.
OBMA reserves the right to colorize or alter photos, and all entrants must agree to allow the business improvement district to use them.
“Our community banners go up in January and hang throughout the year at the entryways to Ocean Beach on Newport and Sunset Cliffs,” said Nicole Ueno, OBMA programs director. “We have room for up to 60 photos on the front and back of our 30 community banners.”
Ueno said each double-sided community banner will feature one dog or other pet on each side.
“We’re looking for clean images of any pet that lives in Ocean Beach in the 92107 ZIP code,” said Ueno, noting Thursday, Nov. 1 is the deadline to submit photos.
“What we’re going to do is stylize the photos we get, do an artist’s rendering, pet portraiture, of the animal,” said Ueno. “We’re looking forward to seeing lots of cute pet photos come in from our pet-friendly community.”
