The $17 million renovation and expansion of the Biomedical Library at UCSD was recently completed by McCarthy Building Companies Inc. A total of 43,454 square feet was added to the former 32,950-square-foot library, the only biomedical research library in San Diego and Imperial counties. The tri-level library features an eye-catching pitched roof that extends 11 feet from the building with a 20-degree slope upward. The roof was cast in place with a steel core, supported by Camber radius beams and a Gass pattern formwork. The UCSD Biomedical Library will hold a grand re-opening this fall.
