Djoko Walujo Wimboprasetyo, a master performer and composer of Javanese classical music, will be honored by the Center for World Music during an Indonesian Sunset Recital Saturday, Oct. 10, at 4:30 p.m. outside La Jolla Cove’s Pantal Inn, at 1003 Coast Blvd. La Jolla, CA 92017. Tickets cost $30. The event will feature traditional gamelan gadhon chamber music, associated with the royal courts of the island of Java, and traditional Indonesian snacks and drinks. Gadhon is a form of royal chamber music performed for special guests invited to special occasions. The simple act of receiving an invitation to this event is part of the intercultural experience. For the past 10 years, Wimboprasetyo has provided educational and artistic opportunities for the children of San Diego by teaching weekly classes in Javanese classical music at the Museum School and Canyon Crest Academy. The Center for World Music is a nonprofit organization fostering intercultural awareness and understanding through in-depth encounters with the worlds performing arts traditions.
