The Point Loma Rotary Club will present the inaugural Jim Krause Memorial Charity Bicycle Tour of Point Loma on Nov. 9 to benefit the UCSD Moores Cancer Center and other civic projects.
Online registration is taking place until two weeks prior to the event, which will start at Liberty Station and traverse bike paths and routes around Point Loma. The ride has three distances to accommodate different levels of experience. The “family ride” is a 10 mile, relatively flat course mostly on bike paths in Liberty Station, Spanish Landing and Harbor Island along beautiful San Diego Bay and is perfect for cruisers, beginning riders, challenged athletes and families. The challenging “enthusiast ride” will allow participants to ride on roads in Point Loma that have been opened exclusively for this event on either a 25- or 52-mile route that includes challenging hills around the Cabrillo National Monument, Sunset Cliffs, Mission Valley and Mission Gorge. The ride will also include a time-trial event from the Point Loma tidepools. Jim Krause was a longtime resident of San Diego and a member of the Point Loma Rotary Club. He died from pancreatic cancer last year, leaving a legacy of service to the community. In his memory, the Point Loma Rotary Club is organizing the Jim Krause Memorial Charity Bike Ride. His friends are sponsoring the ride to highlight the beautiful cycling areas in Point Loma and surrounding neighborhoods, promote a healthy lifestyle, and raise awareness of pancreatic cancer. The event is sponsored by the Mission Valley YMCA, Moment Cycle Sports, Vitalyte and the Point Loma Credit Union.
