Anselmo named McMillin executive vice president
Corky McMillin Cos. has named Robert Anselmo as its new executive vice president.
Anselmo, previously senior vice president in charge of McMillin Commercial, will serve on the board’s executive committee and oversee all legal affairs, participating in strategic corporate planning for the organization, said company officials.
Now in its 48th year, the company has built over 20,000 homes, many master-planned communities, military housing, college dormitories and other projects. McMillin spearheaded the transformation and renovation of the former Naval Training Center in Point Loma to its burgeoning new makeover known as Liberty Station.
Anselmo’s former jobs include vice president of strategic marketing for Qualcomm, Inc. and vice president of business development for Leap Wireless International. He originally began working with McMillin while employed by the law firm of Gray Cary Ames & Fry.
Gordon MacKenzie will now become the lead executive for McMillin Commercial, replacing Anselmo.
Druck Foundation to host leadership conference
The San Diego-based Jenna Druck Foundation is hosting its 11th annual “Young Women’s Spirit of Leadership Conference” on Saturday, March 1. The event will take place from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Liberty Station in Point Loma.
More than 500 young women from area high schools have been invited to attend the event. It will feature keynote speeches from authors Audrey Brashich, former model, and Courtney Macavinta, a coach for teenagers.
Participants in the event will have the opportunity to choose from 15 workshops on various subjects. In addition, they will be able to participate in a mentor luncheon with about 200 women leaders from the San Diego area.
“That’s what makes it unique,” said program director Leanne Tibiatowski, “the caliber of women that come together that carve out time in their calendar to give back.”

PLNU launches new
theology lecture series
The 2008 Wiley Lecture Series in Theology at Point Loma Nazarene University begins today, Thursday, Feb. 21, and will continue through Tuesday, Feb. 26. This year’s series focuses on American evangelism.
Featured speakers include Dr. George M. Marsden from the University of Notre Dame and Dr. Stan Ingersol from the International Church of the Nazarene. Each lecture will take place in the Crill Performance Hall, 3900 Lomaland Drive, on the campus.
Marsden will present the opening lecture, “The Wisdom of America’s Greatest Theologian, Jonathon Edwards, for Evangelicals Then and Now,” Thursday, Feb. 21 from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. He will also present “How ‘Otherworldly’ 20th-century Evangelicalism Became a Political Power,” Thursday, Feb. 21 from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. and “Evangelicals and Secular/Religious America,” Friday, Feb 22 from 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.
Ingersol will present “The Trajectory of Nazarene History” Monday, Feb. 25 from 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. and “Past and Prospect: The Nazarene Future in Light of Its History” Tuesday, Feb. 26 from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m.

Point Loma artist to be featured at exhibit
Art Myers, of Point Loma, will be featured at the Ordover Gallery in Solana Beach. His masterful black-and-white photographs will be on display from Thursday, Feb. 28 through April 6.
Myers’ work will be exhibited from his portolio, titled “Our Kinship with the Seas.”
A reception is planned for Saturday, March 8 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the gallery, 444 South Cedros Ave., Studio 172. Gallery hours are Wednesdays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays from noon to 5 p.m. For more information, call (858) 720-1121.
Remembrance to honor legendary PLHS coach
A special rembrance event has been slated for 2 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 24 in honor of Bennie Edens, the late Point Loma High School coaching legend who passed away on Feb. 8.
Edens guided several championship teams and earned multiple coaching awards and honors over his 50-year tenure at PLHS.
Sunday’s event will bring together former and current PLHS players, coaches and opponents in a “Guys-Only Remembrance Gathering” at the Bali Hai restaurant, 2230 Shelter Island Drive
