In a time when so many favorite restaurants are closing because of rental raises, food prices soaring, lack of staffing, etc., there is wonderful news about Hugo’s Cocina. It has been taken over by two delightful young women who love people, like to cook – although they will be hiring another cook to work with the current chef – and have a long-standing feeling for the restaurant. They worked in the restaurant when it was Rancho’s and have a real affinity for the owner of that restaurant. They almost feel that taking over the management of the restaurant is a tribute to him.
Erika Leyva and Georgina Ballesteros are the new owners, and talking to them was like being in a room with a freshly opened bottle of champagne. They virtually “bubbled” as they talked about the big decision they made to take over.
The menu will remain the same, at least for the time being, and even though they are not going to be open for breakfast, breakfast will be served all day long. They will open at 11 a.m. and still have traditional, vegan, and vegetarian foods available. Their menu is extensive, and there is something for everyone to enjoy.
If you have never been to Hugo’s – 1830 Sunset Cliffs Blvd. – give it a try. I am sure you will enjoy it. And, if you are like me and love the food here, say hello to Erika and Georgina when you go in. They will delight you!
