Even though we celebrate them year-round, on Sunday, May 14, spend the day celebrating the most important woman in your life: your mom. Whether you’re hunting for the perfect brunch spot or your next go-to spa, East Village hosts a range of options to choose from. Located in the heart of San Diego, East Village is a hub of art, food, and entertainment. Surrounded by Petco Park, Balboa Park, the lively Gaslamp district and the bay, there’s no better place to explore with your family this Mother’s Day.

Brunch is never a bad idea – especially in Downtown San Diego. Casual and upscale restaurants line the streets providing ample opportunity to book the ideal reservation for the celebratory meal. Popular options like Lola 55, Mexican cuisine and craft cocktails, Callie, elevated Mediterranean cuisine, Casa Octavio, Mexican-American fusion, and The Mission / East Village, a classic San Diego breakfast joint, offer spectacular brunch plates that’ll have you coming back for more. Later in the afternoon, visit local gems like Neighborhood, You & Yours Distilling Co., Fairweather Rooftop Bar, and El Dorado Cocktail Lounge for a unique dining experience with unforgettable libations and picture-worthy interiors. As we approach Mother’s Day, be sure to stay up to date with restaurants’ specials on their websites and social media. Reservations are sure to go fast!

In between bites, pop into a few boutiques during your stroll around East Village for a bit of retail therapy. Whether you’re looking for athleisure, streetwear, beachwear, or even home decor, we have it all. Stop by Wild Dove Boutique to find her new favorite piece in her closet, or do some quality home shopping at Altered Décor for candles, pillows, rugs, pots, and more.

After, treat your mother to a wellness day and get those endorphins flowing with a class at Pilates of San Diego, a local boutique Pilates chain that offers fun, challenging classes designed to increase strength and mobility while decreasing stress. Gearing up for a full week, sometimes the perfect way to unwind and destress is to get moving! If this doesn’t sound like your mom’s cup of tea and she’s looking for a day of pure relaxation, head over to Essence Thai Spa with their recently reopened sauna and hot tub or Little Thai Massage & Bodywork for a range of treatments that she’ll love. Essence Thai Spa offers quite a few different packages of varying treatments including Thai aroma therapy, foot scrub and massage, hand scrub and massage, reflexology, infrared sauna, and more. Through a fun workout or a luxurious spa package, have an energizing day downtown with your mother and keep the festivities going!

Up for a little competition? Get the ball rolling at Punch Bowl Social or Tavern + Bowl this Mother’s Day for the perfect family outing. Open all day, stop by for a game or two and stay for the fun atmosphere. Both venues offer arcade games, delicious bites, and extensive craft beer lists to keep the fun going all day long. Known as some of the top bowling and entertainment venues in the city, Punch Bowl Social and Tavern + Bowl are great options for your family to explore this Mother’s Day in East Village.

While everyone has different ideas of a good time, there are plenty of options in East Village to explore this Mother’s Day to ensure your mom has a day to remember. Don’t miss the opportunity to dine, shop, relax, and have some fun downtown this May and be sure to make your reservation ahead of time!
