Holiday dining: Some tips from street level

No doubt the Village mainstay restaurants will do a cracking business on Feb. 14 – among the $19 billion that patrons will spend on everything across the nation, the average price for a gastronomic fling will run about $180 for the two of yas (not including the drinks and the upward bumps considering where we live). George’s at the Cove and its three-course dinner for $65; four courses at The Marine Room for $135; lobster tail and filet mignon as part of a first rate meal at Duke’s Steak and Chop House for $125: The entreés and the love will cheerfully vie for attention at these and other Village eateries (assuming you’ve made a reservation if required) There’s another way to find out what’s on the menu this holiday – you can consult the people whose ideas are presented below by the world-beating Hanna Laukkanen, San Diego Newspaper Group’s winter-spring intern. You might pick up some fresh tips from these folks, recently interviewed in La Jolla’s Prospect Street area. In any case, Happy Valentine’s Day – we hope the big event is loopy with fun and food, not necessarily in that order. Martin Jones Westlin Rick Lechuga: Here in La Jolla, I have been in George’s at the Cove, which is always nice; great food, great drinks. Pat Snovel
We have an invitation at Verona. Usually, we go out on Valentine’s Day. I have heard Jose’s is also nice here in La Jolla. Matt Rogers Lots of people like to eat at George’s, and now we have Duke’s La Jolla, which just opened this year and will be a popular one. Me and my wife go to restaurant the day before Valentine’s Day, because Feb 14th is always so busy. My favorite place for food is Deli-icious (a deli). I eat there all the time. Robyn Doughty
I usually like to cook a really nice dinner for my family, make something fancy. Usually seafood or something. I like making cheesecake and Mexican dishes. In La Jolla, you can’t go wrong with the restaurants. There’s a lot of good places here. 5. Gayl Corbitt
Best memory was when we with my son got dinner from a restaurant and we took it home and we had it. I don’t remember the restaurant, but I remember it was really nice, because I didn’t have to cook, and it was really good food. Usually, I’m with my friend Robyn.
