In the midst of Christmas shopping and writing a wish list for Santa, the Children’s Ministry of the First Church of the Nazarene will perform “Mystery of the Manger “” It’s the Gospel Truth!” on Sunday, Dec. 9 at 10:15 a.m. during the regular church service.
The Christmas musical by Celeste Clydesdale centers around a character named Jane Blonde, an investigative reporter for The Morning Star newspaper.
On her search for headline news on Christmas morning, she observes a childrens’ rehearsal for the Christmas Eve pageant. Through their songs the children teach her that “like the wise men,” everyone is searching for the truth.
More than 100 kids from ages 4 to 12 started rehearsing almost three months ago. Under direction of Shelle James, director of the Children’s Ministry, and the two other key contributors ” Jean Huchingson and Melissa Michaelson ” the children will be performing an hour-long musical.
“Only about one-third of the cast belong to the congregation ” which makes it a
special group,” said Diana Day, mother of three of the children in the choir. “They really reach out to the community and encourage non-church members.”
Most of the children are from the Point Loma and Ocean Beach neighborhoods.
“We are hoping to fill up the 1,800 church seats,” Day said.
No tickets are necessary.
The performance happens at the First Church of the Nazarene
on the campus of Point Loma Nazarene University. For more information, call (619) 849-3100.
