Historic Jennings House returns to Point Loma as a café

The Jennings House is returning. Built in Point Loma in 1886 by Frank Jennings (San Diego County Sheriff), it has been a residence, a boarding house, a mercantile, a restaurant, a bistro and a coffeehouse.
Finally, after more than 20 years as the The Living Room, it is being returned to the original name, replete with daily specials. To kick things off, the last week of The Living Room is June 24-30, and the celebratory week of the return to Jennings House will be July 1-7.
It is interesting to note that when Cathy Gallagher, managing partner for Cabrillo Ventures, LLC,  purchased The Living Room in February 2017, they were completely unaware of the history of the building.
They had no idea that it was the first historical area home to be put on the San Diego Historical register from the Point Loma area. (It was the ninth overall.) Several of the Jennings family still reside in the area and are still active today in the community and surrounding areas. There are great plans ahead for Jennings House Cafe. The biggest change will be in the back deck that is being remodeled now and should be completed in time for the grand opening. There will be one added attraction almost immediately in that a fire pit will become part of the backyard. There is a possibility of musicians performing later down the road. One of the most exciting aspects is turning the old barn in the back of the parking lot into a unique indoor/outdoor venue for parties, weddings, musical events, etc. (The upstairs is now available for private events, but think how much fun an old barn will be too.)
On June 30 from 1:30 to 3 p.m. there will be an exclusive book signing by Fred Hillhouse, a Point Loma resident who recently released his memoir, “My Life Adds Up.” This event is open to the public.
Parking is available in the back of Jennings House and also in the parking lot next door at the San Diego County Credit Union. Come try their new specials, including gelato, affogato, kombucha in several flavors, ice creams, soups, chili and homemade biscuits and gravy. I think you will find the new “Jennings House Cafe” a place you will want to frequent often. Jennings House Café
