Hearing the tune of La Jolla’s music scene

The live music scene is alive and well. Welcome to the first installment of the La Jolla Village News’ new regular, bi-weekly live music calendar. MUST HEAR Todo Mundo There are many musical trios in town, but none kick up quite the rhythmic frenzy of Todo Mundo. Led by Colombian-born guitarist Santiago Orozco, with percussionist Jake Sibley and a rotating cast of friends, the group’s name translates as “the whole world” — and they do indeed take in a whole world of influences. Todo Mundo’s sound includes a blend of flamenco, samba, reggae and salsa, all with a beat that’s custom made for dancing, while its set is comprised of Orozco’s music and choice covers such as a recasting of disco classic “I Will Survive.” Whether you are a fan of world music or not, Todo Mundo’s mix of energetic performances and sweet South American melodies is just about irresistible.
