GSDBA To Receive City Grant for Workshops

The Greater San Diego Business Association has been awarded a $20,835 grant from the city, which will be used for workshops and “webinars” for members and the public.
The amount of the grant was an “all-time record” for the nonprofit gay and lesbian chamber of commerce, said chief executive officer Tom Luhnow.

The funding comes from the city’s Small Business Enhancement Program, which focuses on expanding economic opportunities for small businesses.

Luhnow said he is looking forward to putting on a series of workshops and online seminars for local business owners, “So we can get the word out that we are more than just a directory.” The topics will include time management, using federal stimulus money, networking, financial statements and e-mail marketing.

The Web seminars — or webinars — will be 45-60-minutes long and free for members, he said. Workshops will last two hours and cost $10 for GSDBA members, and $20 for guests.

Founded in 1979, the Hillcrest-based GSDBA strives to promote business development to increase economic opportunities for its members, the LGBT community and all who support business equality. The GSDBA has about 800 members, making it the second-largest gay and lesbian chamber of commerce in the United States, second to Seattle.
