Grads make points on courts and in pools

A number of local scholastic grads are flourishing on the collegiate sports scene this winter.
Candice Wiggins (La Jolla Country Day School) continues a strong season with the Stanford Lady Cardinal basketball team. Stanford came into play last weekend at 16-3, having swept Arizona State and Arizona. In the 60-56 win at Arizona State, Wiggins led the way with 18 points.
Hilary White (The Bishop’s School) had seven points and five rebounds for the Whitman College (Wash.) women’s basketball team as it dropped a 55-47 decision to George Fox last Friday.
Grayson Moyer (La Jolla High) had 18 points in a losing effort as Humboldt State fell to Cal State San Bernardino 82-73 last weekend in men’s basketball action.
Brittany Rowe (University City High) is a senior on the UCLA women’s water polo team. Top-ranked UCLA ran its record to 2-0 last weekend with a 14-5 win over UC San Diego. Kristen Ostosh (La Jolla High), who did not see action in the match, is a freshman goalkeeper at UCSD.
Bishop’s School grads Helen Meigs, Lauren Sabb and Christina Michel are all members of the Princeton University women’s water polo team. Princeton opens the season Feb. 16-17 when it hosts the Princeton Invitational. Princeton has games that weekend against Indiana, San Diego State and Michigan.
Three other Bishop’s School alumnae ” Megan May, Koree Blyleven and Chelsea Smith-Carmichael ” are all members of the Stanford University women’s water polo team. Stanford opens play on Feb. 3 when it meets Santa Clara.
“If you know of any graduates of La Jolla High School, La Jolla Country Day, University City High or The Bishop’s School who are continuing their athletic careers on the collegiate level, e-mail [email protected].
