With Super Bowl Sunday and Valentine’s Day a mere two days apart this year on Sunday, Feb. 12, and Tuesday, Feb. 14, respectively, there is plenty of room and time to celebrate long mid-winter sports and romantic holidays. Here are just a few places in the area where you can celebrate the big game – or big date.

SUPER BOWL SUNDAY

Firehouse’s block party will have couches and bottle service. COURTESY PHOTO

Firehouse, 722 Grand Ave.

Put out the flames at this local eatery and watering hole, which is holding a Super Bowl block party with a 20-foot LED Jumbotron, couches and bleachers, bottle service, a full bar with a silent disco, and more. Tickets are available at firehousepb.com.

Duck Dive, 4650 Mission Blvd.

Celebrate every score on Feb. 12 with this bar’s Touchdown Specials. Chow down on deals that include $10 fried pickles, $15 cheesy garlic Parmesan fries, and $20 carne asada fries. Duck Dive will also have a $30 touchdown platter consisting of fried pickles, chicken wings, calamari, garlic Parmesan duck fat fries, and dipping sauces. Drink specials include a $10 shot and beer, and $25 High Noon buckets.

During halftime, Sandbar will hold the Glutton Bowl, an eating competition featuring their award-winning TKO tacos. COURTESY PHOTO

Sandbar Sports Grill, 718 Ventura Place

This establishment is inviting football fanatics to watch the Super Bowl, just steps from the sand, in Mission Beach. The bar will be raffling off prizes, like a giant TV and a beach cruiser bike, along with a few other smaller prizes. During halftime, Sandbar invites guests to participate in Glutton Bowl, an eating competition featuring their award-winning TKO tacos. If you love the combination of a cotija-crusted flour tortilla, chipotle aioli, escabeche slaw, lime crema, spicy guac, crispy onion strings, and fried cilantro, this competition is right up your alley. And everyone can enjoy $5.50 Bud Lights and Michelob Ultras, as well as Sandbar’s $12 beer and shot special.

Miss B’s Coconut Club, 3704 Mission Blvd.

Catch the big game by the beach at Miss B’s and bring your friends and share their Havana Good Time cocktail in their famous gold flamingo while watching on one of their many TVs. There’s no such thing as a bad seat in the house. They’ll also be offering take-out platters for those looking to enjoy a few Caribbean-style bites at home. Keep an eye out for their order form, which will be posted on their website and Instagram.

Cusp Dining & Drinks, Hotel La Jolla, 7955 La Jolla Shores Drive

For those who have no skin in the big game or are looking for a quiet escape from Super Bowl mania, Cusp Dining & Drinks, the restaurant perched on the 11th floor of Hotel La Jolla, will hold “Only Here for the Halftime Show,” an elegant Sunday alternative featuring food and drink specials and spectacular views from 3-8 p.m. on Feb. 12. While football will not play in the restaurant’s private dining area, guests will have access to the highly anticipated Super Bowl Halftime Show, arguably the most important element of the annual sporting event, which will play live on an additional big screen. Food specials with a sophisticated twist include Canape Platters featuring Manchego croquettes, deviled eggs, tuna tartare bites, and crab toast points; Seafood Cioppino, Super Bowl Sundaes, and pound cake, and Benchwarmer Bottomless Champagne Flights. The restaurant’s normal dinner menu will also be available until 9 p.m. Reservations are recommended and can be made at 858-551–3620.

Draft in Mission Beach will have brunch and boozy cocktails in the morning and then game-day food and drink specials on Feb. 12. COURTESY PHOTO

Draft at Belmont Park, 3105 Ocean Front Walk

Celebrate the last football Sunday of the season at Draft on a 31-foot LED screen for an immersive game day experience. Get a head start to game day and enjoy brunch and boozy cocktails from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Starting at 2 p.m., game-day specials will be available including the Ultimate Game Day Platter with French fries, waffle fries, and tater tots, chicken tenders, Giant Pretzelcuterie Board with beer cheese, mustard, pickled onion, olive, giardiniera, and prosciutto and Draft’s Smashburger Sliders served on a Hawaiian roll. Football fanatics can book a VIP table with a 360-degree guaranteed uninterrupted view of the game, a featured menu, and bottle service. Email [email protected] to reserve a VIP table. https://www.restaurantji.com/ca/san-diego/draft-south-mission-/

Moonshine Beach, 1165 Garnet Ave.

In true Super Bowl style, Moonshine Beach broadcasts the game on its larger-than-life screens, a 33-foot LED screen inside, and a 10-foot LED screen outside, making for the ultimate viewing experience. To kick start the party, Moonshine Beach is offering a variety of drink specials, including $7 49ers Shots or Hooch Bloody Marys, $24 Ring of Fireball buckets, $32 Bud or Bud Light Beer Buckets, and $35 Ranch Water or Kona Longboard Buckets. Doors open at noon for the 3:30 p.m. kickoff.

VALENTINE’S DAY

The Cottage, 7702 Fay Ave.

For the lark-like lovebirds or the couple looking to avoid dinner crowds, enjoy a lavish brunch-for-two at The Cottage. The Cottage will be offering a swoon-worthy special on Feb. 14: peaches and cream pancakes with honey lemon curd and fresh berries.

The Shops at La Jolla Village, 8801 Villa La Jolla Drive

This Valentine’s Day The Shops at La Jolla Village is inviting the community to celebrate themselves starting at 1 p.m. With a one-of-a-kind floral wall created in partnership with local business ORLA Floral Studio, guests are invited to take a selfie and build a personal mini bouquet to take home. The Celebrate Loving You event is complimentary and open to the public. The Shops at La Jolla Village will also be accepting donations for Hugs and Bags, a community outreach program dedicated to serving San Diego’s homeless and underprivileged. Guests who post their selfies and tag @theshopsatlajollavillage will be entered to win a $500 “Love Yourself” themed gift package to shops and restaurants at The Shops at La Jolla.
