Concerts

The Allied Gardens/Grantville Community Council (AGGCC) is pleased to announce the lineup for this year’s First Friday Concert at The Park series, which includes a mix of genres that has something for every musical taste.

11134126_1621038454794723_3111178658797029717_oThe concerts at the Allied Gardens Recreation Center Park begin at 6 p.m. and the last note sounds at 8 p.m. The recreation center restrooms will be open through the concert and until 9 p.m. Of note, the parking lot that was closed for renovation is now open. Our bands understand that the audiences will be composed of three generations of our neighbors. They assure us that their playlists and comments from the stage will be appropriate in all regards. More information on each band and its offerings will appear here before performances. If you did not attend any of last summer’s concerts, talk to your neighbors who did — we are sure you want to join us this year.

Screen Shot 2016-03-17 at 3.09.13 PMThe concerts are possible because of the support of the Allied Gardens/Grantville Kiwanis Club, contributions by many of our local businesses, and a grant from District 7 Councilman Scott Sherman. Our thanks to them.

Subscriptions

The time has come for renewal of subscriptions to the AGGCC newsletter. To renew or to begin your subscription, send the annual fee of $8 for the email subscription, or $10 for mail delivery of the hard copy version, along with your name, mailing address, and email address, to: AGGCC, 5173 Waring Road #445, San Diego, CA, 92120-2805. Make your check is payable to the “Allied Gardens-Grantville Community Council.”

Tech stuff

The AGGCC is in need of a working computer. Does anyone have a used but functional laptop (word processing and a Wi-Fi connection is about all we need) that might be donated to the AGGCC?

Also, the board is working hard to get the AGGCC website up to date. Our efforts are directed to making this site a source of current information about community affairs so that notices will not have to wait for the monthly newsletter and an article in the Mission Times Courier. If there are any neighbors with expertise in website management, we would love to have you join us in this endeavor.

Town hall

The AGGCC holds a town hall meeting on the fourth Tuesday of each odd-numbered month. Our next town hall meeting will be on Tuesday, March 22 at 7 p.m. at the Ascension Lutheran Church, corner of 51st and Zion. Our San Diego Police Department community relations officer will give an update on local law enforcement issues. The primary focus of the meeting will be a presentation by executive director Rob Hutsel of the San Diego River Foundation. He will discuss homelessness along the river, clean up efforts, the planned River Park and Trail system, and the anticipated Discovery Center in Mission Valley. We look forward to your attendance.

Community suggestions for topics at future town hall meetings are much appreciated.

—Shain Haug is the Vice President of the Allied Gardens/Grantville Community Council. He can be reached at [email protected].
