The Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Center’s Free Family Arts and Literacy Night series presents a performance by Mariachi Rodriguez as part of a World Stage performance on Thursday, Nov. 17 at 6:30 p.m. in the Rolando Room at The Salvation Army Kroc Center, located at 6605 University Avenue.
Mariachi Rodriguez is led by San Diego State University alumni Andrew Rodriguez.
The ensemble is a collective of local musicians that perform traditional mariachi music at various venues throughout San Diego. Rodriguez serves the community through performance, teaching and sharing the beautiful culture of mariachi.
Following the performance, families are invited to participate in a free art-making art activity with lead teaching visual artist Stacie Greene. Families can make their own representation of a colorful Mexican folk art mirror creating unique design and using bright bold colors.
The Family Arts and Literacy Night series is a collaboration between The Salvation Army Kroc Center and Family Arts Collaborative.
The Family Arts and Literacy Connection is a free intergenerational family arts series promoting literacy in partnership with the arts. Each night features a themed performance and an interactive art project by professional artists. Each family takes home a free book related to the evening’s theme. The series takes place in the Education Center’s Rolando Room at The Salvation Army Kroc Center unless otherwise noted.
