The San Diego Community College District’s Continuing Education program is offering free, non-credit classes at its Point Loma campus and five other sites throughout San Diego. Included are classes for GED/High School diploma, basic skills, English as a second language, vocational training, consumer education, parenting, health and safety, as well as classes for older students and children with disabilities.
Continuing Education classes are open to California residents over the age of 18. Most classes are open-entry/open-exit so that students can begin the class any time of the year, with the exception of holidays and vacation times.
Continuing Education has also modified their GED/High School Diploma program to better assist students in meeting their educational or career goals.
At the start of the fall semester, the GED/High School Diploma program will offer extended hours of instruction time Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
“This new class schedule will enable students to attend school around their work schedules and other family responsibilities,” said Juanita Ledesma, a Continuing Education counselor at the West City campus in Point Loma. “The program will offer more direct instruction as well as independent study and individual attention. In addition, new textbooks and software have been purchased to update the program.”
These changes will increase the opportunities for students to work toward their high school diploma or GED certificate and improve their reading and math skills, as well as prepare them for college, vocational training, or competitive employment opportunities.
The West City campus is located at 3249 Fordham St., and is accessible by MTS bus numbers 9 and 34. Street and lot parking is free.
