Flaming-hot flamenco and Journey, AC/DC tributes

Alternative rockers Enreverie perform at The Griffin on Oct. 14. Fronted by singer Amber Plaster and guitarist Aaron Echeverria, the band excels at original rock in the tradition of The Muse or Paramore. Their radio-friendly material is top-notch and, as evidenced in the video for their song “Ashes,” Plaster is blessed with both a great voice and stage presence. While the band’s live power doesn’t quite match the sonic blast of their recordings, this is a band to keep an eye on. • Enreverie performs at 9 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 14 at The Griffin, 1310 Morena Blvd. 21 and up. $5 in advance. www.thegriffinsd.com Whether you’re fan of world music or simply guitar virtuosity, there are few genres as exciting as flamenco. The heavily-rhythmic sound emerged from Andalusia sometime in the 18th century and remains one of the world’s most popular ethnic sounds. San Diego has several terrific practitioners of this sound, but none have quite caught San Diego’s attention like Novamenco, which performs at Tango Del Rey on Oct. 15. The band’s performance is a full production, complete with backing musicians and the dance troupe Sabor Andaluz. Anyone looking for something a little more exotic than the usual DJ-fronted clubs or indie band scene, will love this event. • Novamenco performs at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 15, at Tango Del Rey, 3567 Del Rey St. Free. All ages. www.theretrorocketts.com Featuring singer-songwriter Kyle Sorrell, The Accidentals have a Monday-night residency at the Tiki House through the end of October. The five-piece band’s set includes the occasional original penned by Sorrell and bandmates, but this is an outfit that specializes in cover tunes ranging from The Beatles to Van Morrison. Several notches above the typical bar band, where most combos seem happy to pick exclusively from a list of vintage favorites, The Accidentals also mix in modern-era tunes from the likes of Bruno Mars and Radiohead, for a well-rounded set of crowd pleasers. • The Accidentals perform at 9 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 17 at The Tiki House, 1152 Garnet Ave. Cover TBD. 21 and up. www.tikipb.com Fans of hard rock won’t want to miss Just Like Jenna, which performs at Brick by Brick on Oct. 19. Featuring excellent frontman Nino Motisi on guitar, the trio comes across like across like a mix of Grand Funk Railroad and The Cult, jettisoning the bombast but keeping their strong melodic sense. The band also has a sense of humor as evidenced in its new video, “Love City,” but it’s the mix of sonic mayhem and musical chops that has made the band a favorite on the local club circuit. • Just Like Jenna performs at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 19 at Brick by Brick, 1130 Buenos Ave. 21 and up. $5. www.brickbybrick.com Their heyday may have been 30 years ago, but there is no denying the hold that the music of seventies rockers Journey still has on the public. With a deep catalog of classic tunes like “Don’t Stop Believin’’’ and “Wheel In The Sky,” they are the perfect candidates for a tribute band such as locals Open Arms, which performs at the 710 Beach Club on Oct. 22.. The group is unique in the tribute band game as they trade the original songs’ male vocals for a female frontwoman, The band performs on a double bill that also includes AC/DC tribute act Back in Black. Ironically, the two band namesakes would be a mismatch in concert, but for fans of classic rock tribute bands, this is a dream team. • Open Arms performs at 9 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 22 at the 710 Beach Club, 710 Garnet Ave. 21 and up. Cover TBD. www.710bc.com
