After a strong sophomore season in the Women’s Premier Soccer League that saw the San Diego Strikers win the So Cal Conference Plymouth Division for the second year in a row, five of their players have earned league accolades alongside their head coach, Ray Taila.
Goalkeeper Kelcie Brodsky (above), defender Christina Bragado, midfielder Cassie Callahan, along with forwards Kiera Bocchino, and Ava Seelenfreund were named to the All-Conference Plymouth Division best 11 earlier this week.
“Really excited and happy for the players getting the recognition and making the WPSL Player Honors,” said Taila. “We had a lot of talented players on the team, and out of the 11 players that were selected from our division, five of our players made the list.”
Bocchino was also named as the Plymouth Division offensive player of the year after leading the Strikers in scoring with six goals and three assists. The team finished undefeated during the regular season going 7-0-1, compared to its 6-0-0 record in 2021.
“I am thankful for being voted coach of the year for our division and I consider myself lucky to be surrounded by so many great and talented players on the team,” Taila added.
As for 2023, the WPSL has yet to release the schedule but the Strikers hope to have most of its players, many of whom were with the San Diego SeaLions previously, back for a third season competing in the WPSL.
