George’s at the Cove and First Republic Bank continue to coordinate what many have called San Diego’s most spectacular Fourth of July fireworks show at La Jolla Cove’s Scripps Park.
For the 24th year, George Hauer, owner of George’s at the Cove, has partnered with First Republic to bring the show to thousands of spectators. Beginning at about 9 p.m., the fireworks display “” produced by Santee’s Fireworks America “” is expected to continue throughout the hour, according to Hauer.
“Our fireworks have been a fabric of the community and we are pleased to do it,” Hauer said.
Both first-timers and established Cove fireworks connoisseurs will need to take some parking issues into consideration. This year, beginning at 5 p.m., officials will close all parking at the Cove. No parking spaces will be available in the stretch between the lifeguard check at the Cove to South Coast Boulevard, Hauer said.
“The reason is that when the fireworks are over, 7,000 people start running to their cars and [it is dangerous],” Hauer said.
Additionally, Cave Street and South Coast will be closed from 5 to 10 p.m.
Aside from coordinating street closures and accommodating safety measures with lifeguards for the extraordinary number of people that continue to flock to La Jolla Cove every year, Hauer said he’s pleased to donate the time, effort and money so the public can enjoy what has come to be a time-honored tradition for Scripps Park on the Fourth of July.
“Have a party and drink a toast to the bank, and to us, during the fireworks,” Hauer said
