As a result of community support, Mission Bay Yacht Club – in partnership with the surrounding Mission Bay resorts – will bring back its holiday fireworks show on July 3, with family-friendly viewing and activities around the bay.

After a 10-year absence, fireworks on Mission Bay will take place at 9 p.m. launching from near Mission Bay Yacht Club, 1215 El Carmel Place, between its shoreline and the Ingraham Street bridge into Crown Point.

Due to overwhelming support from the coastal community, which collectively raised more than $45,000 in a few weeks via a GoFundMe page started by Mission Bay Yacht Club’s Kathy Dryden, there are funds for the permit and barge.

For nearly 30 years, the fireworks show lit up the summer night sky over Mission Bay and was one of the area’s annual traditions, but when the cost became too much for the Mission Bay Yacht Club’s budget, the show went dark in 2012.

“We are all incredibly grateful for the way the Mission Bay community has rallied together to make this happen, and we were shocked to see how quickly the numbers were going up,” said George Allen, area director of sales and marketing at Noble House Hotels & Resorts. “Since having to halt the fireworks in 2012, and after enduring a few challenging years with the pandemic, it’s exciting to have a beloved Mission Bay tradition come back to life and become a reality again.”

For the best views of the fireworks and accompanying experiences and packages, various businesses and hotel properties around Mission Bay are offering special programming for families.

The GoFundMe page is continuing to accept donations up until the event, hoping to reach its goal of $60,000.
