DOWNTWOWN — San Diego Fire Rescue will host a commemoration in honor of those killed in the attacks against the United States on Sept. 11, 2001. During the memorial, a banner will hang with the names of all who perished in the attacks that day. Speakers will include Assistant Fire Chief Jeff Carle, police Chief Bill Landsdown, Mayor Jerry Sanders and fire department Chaplain Charles Mullen. As participants reflect on and honor the victims from Sept. 11, a 30-foot by 58-foot American flag will hang overhead from a fire-engine ladder. A steel piece from the World Trade Center will also be on display as a reminder of the towers. The memorial is open to the public. The service will take place at 12:15 p.m. on Sept. 10, one day before the nine-year anniversary of Sept. 11. The station is located at 1222 First Ave.
