Female robber gets six years for Pacific Beach heist

A woman who robbed a Pacific Beach service station and committed two other hold-ups was sentenced Tuesday, Sept. 24 to six years in state prison.
Shelley Lynn Petitt, 32, displayed a BB gun to victims, but they believed it was a real firearm, said Deputy District Attorney Daniel Shim.
Shim said Petitt held the gun while Michael Beasley, 35, also participated. Beasley’s sentencing was delayed Tuesday until Oct. 4.
“The two of you together decided to terrorize people,” scolded San Diego Superior Court Judge Polly Shamoon.
Shamoon said the victims thought they might be killed if they didn’t hand over the cash fast enough and it was traumatic for them. Shim asked the judge for a 10 year, four-month term for Petitt.
The Chevron station Food Mart on Garnet Avenue lost several hundred dollars during the 4 p.m. robbery on July 29.
Petitt’s attorney, Ryan Maguire-Fong, asked for a four-year term, saying she had “a troublesome upbringing” and her parents were alcoholics. Petitt was also recently diagnosed as bipolar, said her attorney.
Maguire-Fong said she “fell in love” with Beasley, but unfortunately, she developed substance abuse issues including heroin use.
Shamoon fined Pettit $9,224 and gave her credit for already serving 63 days in jail. A status hearing for restitution was set for Oct. 23.
Both Petitt and Beasley pleaded guilty Aug. 26 to the Pacific Beach robbery and holding up a clothing store in Otay Mesa. They also admitted a Barstow robbery.
They are both from Ohio, having arrived in San Diego in the summer. They were arrested Aug. 1 in Valley Center.
Beasley faces up to five years in prison and remains in jail on $300,000 bail.
