Feeling good is their business

A new business has moved into the village of La Jolla, bringing with it a concept of massage membership.
Massage Envy opened Nov. 30 at 7650 Girard Ave., offering a one-hour session at $39 for first-time customers and a monthly membership for regular customers.
“We are part of an overall wellness program,” said Greg Lane, a licensed acupuncturist and massage therapist at Massage Envy. “Massage is integral to overall well-being.”
In addition to exercise and eating right, Lane said people are adding massage to their health regime.
“We’re all highly well-trained,” Lane said. “A person can get the same massage here for a fraction of the cost they would pay over at La Costa.”
Massage Envy offers seven different types of massages, all practiced by trained, certified practitioners, many of whom are also holistic health practitioners, Lane said.
According to Lane, the deep tissue massage goes well into the muscles; the trigger-point relieves pain by working on different points of the body; the Swedish massage uses long strokes; sports massage helps athletes to train and recover; the myofascial works on connective tissue, focusing on areas of the body that attach; and reflexology works on areas such as the hands and feet for an overall good feeling.
“Frequent massage helps people with relationships and people deal with daily stressors,” Lane said.
To introduce people to massages, therapists at Massage Envy set up chairs outside the store at the La Jolla location for free massages. They also set up massage chairs outside the 24 Hour Fitness store down the street.
Massage Envy is open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.
For more information about Massage Envy, to set up an appointment or for pricing, call (858) 551-0078, or visit www.massageenvy.com.
