Everyday California offers BOGO surf lessons

Everyday California — a La Jolla-based ocean adventure and apparel company — is offering a BOGO (buy one, get one) deal on Sept. 20 for both private and group surf lessons in honor of California Surfing Day.

Everyday California obtained a surf permit for the first time in May of this year. The permit allowed them to expand their offerings, add more than 20 local jobs within the first year of surf operations, and significantly increase annual adventure bookings.

The company is also looking to partner with various organizations, such as the Urban Surf 4 Kids Academy, to get orphan youth and foster kids out on the water. Using water sports as a catalyst, the organization teaches kids how to have fun first and then give back to their communities and neighborhoods through local service projects.

Coldwell Banker La Jolla agents donate school supplies to Monarch School

Agents with the La Jolla office of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage) recently donated hundreds of school supplies to the Monarch School, which educates students impacted by homelessness.

The agents — Melanie Aalbers, Michele Esposito, Jan Newell, Michelle Silverman, David Spiewak, Alanna Strei, Jeannie Thompson, and Brandon and Charlotte Weber — hosted a month-long School Supply Drive with a donation drive event at Mission Brewery.

The Monarch School has served San Diego County for 32 years. It began as a one-room education center in 1987 and evolved into a K-12 school. Currently, it offers a comprehensive program designed to educate homeless youth. Monarch School students live in shelters, motels, in vehicles with their families or doubled-up with other families.

Compared to their homeless counterparts, Monarch School students attend school more often, become more literate, manage behaviors more effectively and graduate at a higher rate.
