Halloween carnival to delight ghosts and goblins The Pacific Beach Recreation Center will host a Halloween carnival for the community on Friday, Oct. 29 from 4 to 7 p.m. The event will include games, a costume contest and arts and crafts. Tickets for food and games will be 25 cents each. Hot dogs, sodas and popcorn will be just a few of the food highlights. Candy will be handed out as prizes for games. There will also be a cakewalk and, for the lucky few who land on the special number, a cupcake will be awarded. The carnival is open to the public and is free to enter. The Pacific Beach Recreation Center is located at 1405 Diamond St. For more information, call (858) 581-9927. Fall concert series kicks off in PB The La Jolla Renaissance Singers (LJRS) will kick off their two-concert fall series with a performance at Saint Brigid Catholic Church, 4735 Cass St., at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 31. LJRS has a 46-year history in the community and will perform W.A. Mozart’s “Solemn Vespers of a Confessor K339.” John Polhamus, Pacific Beach native and resident, directs the choir. Allison Luedecke will accompany the choir on Saint Brigid’s Martin Ott pipe organ. The concert is free and open to the public, but donations are welcomed. Paddlers to row for the Cure The ninth annual Row for the Cure event will take place in Mission Bay on Sunday, Oct. 31 at 7 a.m. The regatta race will begin at South Shores on Mission Bay, pass by SeaWorld, go around Vacation Island and Paradise Point and finish north of Ski Beach. UC rowers will be present to offer tips and the Dragon Boat community will offer boat rides. Costs range from $25 to $90. All entry fees and donations will benefit the Susan G. Komen for the cure.
