{"id":324508,"date":"2023-05-15T10:28:31","date_gmt":"2023-05-15T17:28:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sdnews.com\/?p=324508"},"modified":"2023-05-15T10:28:31","modified_gmt":"2023-05-15T17:28:31","slug":"guhsd-governing-board-to-appoint-four-community-leaders-to-committee","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/test.sdnews.com\/es\/guhsd-governing-board-to-appoint-four-community-leaders-to-committee\/","title":{"rendered":"GUHSD Governing Board to appoint four community leaders to committee"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">The Grossmont Union High School District (GUHSD) Governing Board will soon appoint four community leaders to vacant positions on the District\u2019s Citizens\u2019 Bond Oversight Committee (CBOC). <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Three vacancies are in the category of \u201cCommunity Member at Large\u201d and one vacancy is in the category of \u201cParent or Guardian of a Child Enrolled in the District.\u201d GUHSD is encouraging interested East County citizens to apply.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>In explaining the CBOC\u2019s role, <span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">2022 CBOC Chair Randall Sanner <\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">said the &#8220;CBOC provides an independent examination of District bond project planning and spending to afford the taxpayers and community at large validation that funds are being spent as intended and designed.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The CBOC consists of <span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">11<\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"> volunteer members advising the GUHSD Governing Board and its community. The CBOC reviews planning documents and financial reports, and they also visit construction sites and completed projects to ensure that project work is consistent with reported expenditures. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">The oversight committee \u2013 which is required per the provisions of the voter-approved Proposition U and Measure BB ballot measures \u2013 includes GUHSD parents and guardians, members of the East County community, professionals, and retired individuals. Former members of the Citizens\u2019 Bond Oversight Committee include <\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">El Cajon Mayor Bill Wells<\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">, <\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">past President of Cuyamaca College Dr. Mark Zacovic<\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">, and multiple other East County elected officials.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We promised East County voters that we\u2019d build safe, modern high schools, that we\u2019d do so with transparency, and that we\u2019d always be accountable to them,\u201d said <span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">GUHSD Governing Board President Robert Shield<\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">. \u201cThe community leaders who are appointed to fill these vacancies will help ensure that GUHSD delivers on that promise, so they\u2019ll be performing a vital community service,\u201d continued Shield.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">CBOC applicants must be 18 years of age, not be employed with or contracted by GUHSD, and be able to attend evening meetings eight times per year. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Once appointed, members serve a two-year term.
