Happy April, everyone. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Spring has officially sprung, which means my favorite season is here\u2026 Baseball season. That also means spring festivals and, as the weather warms, more opportunity to spend in our glorious San Diego weather. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

As always, it\u2019s a pleasure to share what happened in District 7 for the previous month and what\u2019s to come.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Meeting set for April 20 on allowing dogs off leashes<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

This month, the City\u2019s Park & Recreation Board will consider my proposal to establish an off-leash dog park at the Allied Gardens Community Park. This follows a public workshop held in September 2022 and the Allied Gardens Recreation Council\u2019s unanimous support to approve the project in November 2022. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

This is an important project as it will be the first off-leash dog park in the Navajo community and something that many residents have waited a long time for. Should the proposal be approved by the Park & Recreation Board, City staff is on track to install fencing and amenities this summer. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Members of the Navajo community are encouraged to attend and make their voices heard. Details have been included below.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Del Cerro resident Rose Schindler honored as a \u201cWomen of Distinction\u201d<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

In March, we honored and celebrated influential \u201cWomen of Distinction\u201d across the city of San Diego. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

I was privileged to nominate and recognize former Del Cerro resident Rose Schindler.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Rose was a pillar of the community, mother, grandmother, an Auschwitz survivor. She<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

co-authored the book, \u201cTwo Who Survived: Keeping Hope Alive While Surviving the Holocaust,\u201d with her husband, Max.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Rose passed away after a long life on Feb. 17, 2023. She had a great impact to her community and those she came into contact with on a daily basis. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Thank you, Mayor Gloria and the entire San Diego City Council for highlighting such amazing women throughout our region.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Pothole repairs on Navajo Road and College Avenue<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Potholes (pictured above) continue to be a problem in the City. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

I want you to know that I am working hard to ensure that these potholes are being addressed and that the roads in Navajo receive the treatment that they deserve. If you see a pothole, please use the Get it Done app to report it and alert my staff so that they can request to prioritize your report.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Benchley-Weinberger Elementary Multicultural Fest<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

This past month I was able to attend the Benchley-Weinberger Elementary Multicultural Fest. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Thank you for inviting me to your very first Multicultural Fest to celebrate the food, art, and performances of different ethnic backgrounds. It was such a pleasure meeting so many of the students and parents of the school – I had a wonderful time.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

I know many dread tax season, but there is help for those who need it. I\u2019m happy to share that the Benjamin Branch Library offers free tax preparation help provided by AARP. This is available and free to anyone of any age – especially if you are 50 or older or can’t afford paid tax preparation.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Tax preparations are Mondays 11:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. & Wednesdays 12 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. through April 12. No appointments are necessary; however, this is on a first-come, first-served basis.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
