Promoted by local music favorite, Jefferson Jay, each concert features three top performers playing short sets, with a great lineup for <\/span><span style=\"font-size: xx-small;\">this year<\/span><span style=\"font-size: xx-small;\">\u2019s first edition: guitarist Greg Douglass <\/span><span style=\"font-size: xx-small;\">(encima)<\/span><span style=\"font-size: xx-small;\">, the singer-songwriter duo of Blossom and Bloom, and rhythmic combo Ritmo Latino. All are well worth hearing, but the nod here goes to Douglass, an inspired, unique lead player, who has scored major chart hits as a member of both The Steve Miller Band (\u201cJungle Love\u201d) and The Greg Kihn Band (\u201cJeopardy\u201d) and also penned TV theme songs (CBS-TV\u2019s \u201cEverybody Loves Raymond\u201d). These shows are a great way to showcase the best of San Diego\u2019s performers, in one of the area\u2019s best listening rooms.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><span style=\"font-size: xx-small;\"><i><b>Acoustic Evenings:<\/b><\/i><\/span><span style=\"font-size: xx-small;\"><i> Friday, April 7 at the Athenaeum Music &amp; Arts Library, 1008 Wall St. 7:30 p.m. $15-$39. ljathenaeum.org.<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><span style=\"color: #5983b0;\"><span style=\"font-size: xx-small;\"><b>SPOTLIGHTS<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><span style=\"font-size: xx-small;\">Originally from Calgary AB Canada, rockers Daring Greatly\u2019s move to San Diego in 2015 has helped them rise to the status of national contenders. Appearing at Humphrey\u2019s Backstage Live on March 31, the band has one of the best draws in town, with nominations at this year\u2019s San Diego Music Awards in an impressive three categories, including \u201cBest Rock Band,\u201d \u201cBest Rock Album\u201d for their latest, \u201cGird Valley,\u201d and \u201cSong of the Year,\u201d for their single, \u201cNever A Goodbye.\u201d With accomplishments like that it won\u2019t be long before Daring Greatly moves from Humphrey\u2019s relatively intimate Backstage Live to their major Concerts by the Bay outdoor stage.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><span style=\"font-size: xx-small;\"><i><b>Daring Greatly<\/b><\/i><\/span><span style=\"font-size: xx-small;\"><i>: Friday, March 31 at Humphrey\u2019s Backstage Live, 2241 Shelter Island Dr<\/i><\/span><span style=\"font-size: xx-small;\"><i>ive<\/i><\/span><span style=\"font-size: xx-small;\"><i>. 8 p.m. $15. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.humphreysbackstagelive.com\/\">humphreysbackstagelive.com<\/a>.<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><span style=\"font-size: xx-small;\">1980\u2019s era R&amp;B hitmakers, New Edition, stop in at Pechanga Arena on April 6. Billed as a \u201cLegacy\u201d tour, the night also includes singers Keith Sweat and Guy, as well as Tank, however, it\u2019s New Edition\u2019s string of hits and founding member Bobby Brown\u2019s appearance with the group that will most thrill fans. It\u2019s been nearly two decades since New Edition released new music, but concertgoers won\u2019t mind the night\u2019s \u201cgreatest hits\u201d set featuring close harmony classics such as \u201cI&#8217;m Still in Love With You\u201d and \u201cCan You Stand the Rain.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><span style=\"font-size: xx-small;\"><i><b>New Edition<\/b><\/i><\/span><span style=\"font-size: xx-small;\"><i>: Thursday, April 6 at Pechanga Arena, 3500 Sports Arena Blvd. 7:30 p.m. 74.50 and up. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pechangaarenasd.com\/\">pechangaarenasd.com<\/a>.<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><span style=\"font-size: xx-small;\">On April 7, <\/span><span style=\"font-size: xx-small;\">t<\/span><span style=\"font-size: xx-small;\">he 2023 Wu Tsai QRT.yrd Concert Series, at The Conrad Prebys Performing Arts Center, kicks off with an afternoon celebration of Women in Jazz. Part of the First Friday La Jolla Art Walk, the event will be headlined by The Lori Bell Quartet, featuring Bell on flutes, with Melonie Grinnell on piano, Evona Wascinski on bass, and Monette Marino on percussion. Bell\u2019s most recent album, \u201cJames Taylor Reimagined,\u201d contains masterful reworkings of Taylor\u2019s hits, however, jazz fans will first want to give Bell\u2019s 2016 original release, \u201cBrooklyn Dreams,\u201d a listen to hear the full range of her talents.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><span style=\"font-size: xx-small;\"><i><b>The Lori Bell Quartet<\/b><\/i><\/span><span style=\"font-size: xx-small;\"><i>: Friday, April 7 at Wu Tsai QRT.yrd at The Conrad Prebys Performing Arts Center, 7600 Fay Ave. 4:30 p.m. Free. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theconrad.org\/\">www.theconrad.org<\/a>.<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><span style=\"font-size: xx-small;\">Vocalist Lauren Leigh performs at the Mission Bay Resort on April 8. Nominated this year for two SDMA\u2019s, Best Pop Artist and Best Pop Album, for her release, \u201cGhost In The Picture,\u201d the \u201cpop\u201d category barely contains Leigh\u2019s talent. One of the busiest musicians in town, she\u2019s at home singing the blues or letting loose on a Pink Floyd cover, Leigh can do it all. Currently touring in support of their most recent album, \u201cBook,\u201d the group\u2019s sound hasn\u2019t strayed too far from their early 1990s hits such as \u201cBirdhouse In Your Soul\u201d or \u201cIstanbul (Not Constantinople),\u201d both of which feature in the current setlist.
