{"id":320297,"date":"2023-02-22T07:09:00","date_gmt":"2023-02-22T15:09:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sdnews.com\/?p=320297"},"modified":"2023-02-21T18:13:27","modified_gmt":"2023-02-22T02:13:27","slug":"city-of-san-diego-prepares-for-storm-conditions-takes-steps-to-avoid-flooding-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/test.sdnews.com\/es\/city-of-san-diego-prepares-for-storm-conditions-takes-steps-to-avoid-flooding-2\/","title":{"rendered":"City of San Diego prepares for storm conditions, takes steps to avoid flooding"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>With significant rain and high winds forecast over the next several days, the City of San Diego is continuing its year-round storm preparations and taking proactive steps to prevent flooding, while also urging residents to take action to safeguard their homes, especially those in flood-prone areas.<\/p>\n<p>The City\u2019s Stormwater Department will be temporarily placing \u201cno parking\u201d signs in low-lying or flood-risk areas, cleaning\u00a0storm\u00a0drains and inlets with a history of debris buildup, street sweeping to reduce trash and pollutants from entering our waterways, and monitoring more than 46,000 storm\u00a0drains citywide for any issues.<\/p>\n<p>San Diego residents can individually prepare for the rains and help reduce the risk of flooding near their homes and properties by taking a few simple steps:<\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>Sweep and pick up trash, leaves, grass clippings and other debris that collect around storm\u00a0drains and curb gutters near your home.<\/li>\n<li>Keep the lid securely closed on trash and recycle bins when placing them out on the street for collection. Place each bin approximately two to three feet away from the curb so as not to impede the\u00a0stormwater flowing on the street.<\/li>\n<li>Proactively turn off irrigation to save water and minimize runoff.<\/li>\n<li>Inspect your property or surroundings for loose tree branches or trees that could be vulnerable to high winds and rain and prepare accordingly.<\/li>\n<li>Know the safest routes to and from your home or property should flooding occur.<\/li>\n<li>Slow down and do not drive, ride or walk through flood waters.<\/li>\n<li>Do not open or lift manhole covers in the event of street flooding.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>During the rains, multiple crews from the City\u2019s\u00a0Storm\u00a0Patrol will be actively monitoring areas throughout the city and responding to incidents, such as temporary flooding and downed trees or branches.<\/p>\n<p>Sandbags are also available in limited supply and can be picked up\u00a0at\u00a0nine\u00a0recreation centers centrally located\u00a0in each City Council District.\u00a0Residents\u00a0with identification showing\u00a0proof of residency can\u00a0receive\u00a0up to 10\u00a0empty\u00a0sandbags.<\/p>\n<p>As the sandbags\u00a0are not pre-filled, residents\u00a0are encouraged\u00a0to also plan to\u00a0buy sand at\u00a0local hardware stores, landscape suppliers or wherever else sand\u00a0can be\u00a0purchased.\u00a0Sandbags\u00a0are available\u00a0at the locations listed below Monday through Friday\u00a0from 1-7 p.m.<\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>Council District 1\u00a0&#8211; Pacific Beach\u00a0Recreation Center,\u00a01405 Diamond St.<\/li>\n<li>Council District 2 (inland)\u00a0&#8211;\u00a0North Clairemont Recreation Center,\u00a04421 Bannock Ave.<\/li>\n<li>Council District 2 (coastal) &#8211; Robb Field Athletic Area, 2525 Bacon St.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>Council District 3\u00a0&#8211;\u00a0Golden Hill Recreation Center,\u00a02600 Golf Course Drive.<\/li>\n<li>Council District 4\u00a0&#8211;\u00a0Martin Luther King, Jr. Recreation Center,\u00a06401 Skyline Drive.<\/li>\n<li>Council District 5\u00a0&#8211;\u00a0Scripps Ranch Recreation Center,\u00a011454 Blue Cypress Drive.<\/li>\n<li>Council District 6\u00a0&#8211; Standley Recreation Center,\u00a03585 Governor Dr.<\/li>\n<li>Council District 7\u00a0&#8211;\u00a0Allied Gardens Recreation Center,\u00a05155 Greenbrier Ave.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>Council District 8\u00a0&#8211;\u00a0San Ysidro Community Activity Center,\u00a0179\u00a0Diza\u00a0Road.<\/li>\n<li>Council District 9\u00a0&#8211;\u00a0City Heights Recreation Center,\u00a04380 Landis St.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Santa Clara Recreation Center, located at 1008 Santa Clara Place, will serve as an additional sandbag distribution site. Residents can report events, such as flooding or downed trees, by using the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sandiego.gov\/get-it-done\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Get It Done<\/a>\u00a0application or by calling\u00a0619-527-7500.
