On Dec. 23, the La Mesa Police Department held a DUI Checkpoint in the 4900 block of Spring Street. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

During the checkpoint, which lasted from 7 <\/span>p.m. until 12:30 a.m., 552 vehicles were contacted. One driver was arrested for driving under the influence (suspected alcohol) and eight drivers were evaluated for impairment in secondary screening.<\/span><\/p>\n

DUI checkpoint locations are determined based on reported incidents of impaired driving-related crashes. The primary purpose of DUI checkpoints is to promote public safety by taking suspected impaired drivers off roads.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Funding for this checkpoint was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
