{"id":316433,"date":"2022-10-28T10:48:44","date_gmt":"2022-10-28T17:48:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sdnews.com\/?p=316433"},"modified":"2022-10-28T10:48:44","modified_gmt":"2022-10-28T17:48:44","slug":"severin-grossmont-hills-neighborhood-receives-approval-for-pedestrian-park","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/test.sdnews.com\/es\/severin-grossmont-hills-neighborhood-receives-approval-for-pedestrian-park\/","title":{"rendered":"Severin Grossmont Hills neighborhood receives approval for pedestrian park"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Three years since its inception by residents in the Severin Grossmont Hills neighborhood, La Mesa Public Works have approved installation of a small pedestrian park and historical marker. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">The improved landscaping planned for the northeast corner of Severin and Murray Drive will enhance the aesthetics of the western entrance into the La Mesa community.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">New ground cover, hardscaping, drip-irrigation and a historical plaque are planned for the City of La Mesa\u2019s right-of-way area at the western end of La Suvida Drive, where it once intersected with Severin Drive until the mid-1980\u2019s. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201c<span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">It has been a community effort from the start,\u201d said Richard Sweeney, a resident in the neighborhood. \u201cIt started with just a few neighbors discussing the historical significance of the area but has snowballed into a neighborhood organization dedicated to this privately funded community improvement,\u201d he continued.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Fundraising efforts by residents Nikki Kreibich, Brooks &amp; Kurtis Pauly and Sweeney have sourced funds through local resident donors and the granddaughters of Earl Severin and Urban DeCamp, original developers in the community. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201c<span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">We are very excited about how this is coming together,\u201d Kreibich, a La Mesa Realtor said. \u201cWe are on our way to achieving the funds needed to finish the project. In-kind donations from John Beaudry Landscaping, RCP Block &amp; Brick, Rock &amp; Block Hardscape Supply, Anthony\u2019s Fish Grotto Restaurant and graphic artist Bradley Keen have also been an enormous help.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">A neighborhood planning meeting is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 12, 10 a.m. at Anthony\u2019s Fish Grotto, 9530 Murray Drive. Anyone interested in the project is invited to attend. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">A brief summary of the neighborhood\u2019s history, dating back to Dr. Charles M. Johnson\u2019s purchase of the area in 1865, will also be presented.
