The Grossmont Union High School District (GUHSD) has once again expanded the number of its<\/span><\/span><\/span> Career Technical Education<\/a><\/u><\/span><\/span><\/span> <\/u>(CTE) pathways that provide GUHSD students with the job-ready skills necessary for success in America\u2019s growing industries.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Beginning this school year, GUHSD added Education\/Child Development pathways at <\/span><\/span><\/span>West Hills High School <\/span><\/span><\/span>y <\/span><\/span><\/span>Granite Hills High School<\/span><\/span><\/span>, a Hospitality\/Event Planning pathway at Granite Hills High School, and a Health Sciences\/Community Health pathway at <\/span><\/span><\/span>El Cajon Valley High School<\/span><\/span><\/span>. These additions bring GUHSD\u2019s grand total to 44 career pathways across 12 in-demand industry sectors including Engineering & Architecture, Information & Communication Technologies, and Agriculture & Natural Resources. Through CTE \u2013 a unique pillar of GUHSD\u2019s award winning academic program \u2013 over – 4,000 students acquire cutting-edge career training for the jobs of tomorrow. Demonstrating the quality of GUHSD\u2019s program, and the demand for the training offered through the new pathways, the newly offered classes were all fully enrolled when the semester began.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWith such a wide variety of career pathways, GUHSD students have countless opportunities to build their best future,\u201d <\/span><\/span><\/span>said GUHSD Superintendent Mary Beth Kastan<\/span><\/span><\/span>. \u201cWe are excited to offer these new pathways so that we can make many career dreams a reality for our students,\u201d said Kastan.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

In addition to the diverse class offerings, CTE students are also supported by GUHSD\u2019s CTE team who identify career fairs and hiring events for students. They also connect students with networking opportunities that can result in job opportunities.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cOur award-winning CTE programs provide students with world-class educational opportunities and have made GUHSD a destination school district,\u201d said <\/span><\/span><\/span>GUHSD Governing Board Member Dr. Gary Woods<\/span><\/span><\/span>. \u201cWith these additional CTE pathways, we will be opening new paths for our students to the jobs of tomorrow,\u201d he added.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

GUHSD\u2019s CTE pathways are designed to provide students of diverse interests with opportunities to explore careers in a variety of high-demand industries. Of particular interest to <\/span><\/span><\/span>GUHSD Governing Board Member Elva Salinas <\/span><\/span><\/span>\u2013 a successful salon owner \u2013 is the Cosmetology pathway offered at both <\/span><\/span><\/span>Monte Vista <\/span><\/span><\/span>y <\/span><\/span><\/span>Mount Miguel High Schools<\/span><\/span><\/span>. \u201cThe skills acquired in these classes can propel young students into careers as soon as they graduate,\u201d said Salinas. \u201cThese programs prepare our graduates to work for top salons and can lead to owning businesses of their own. It\u2019s an ideal launchpad for working in this creative, in-demand industry,\u201d she added.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
