{"id":316133,"date":"2022-10-18T11:38:24","date_gmt":"2022-10-18T18:38:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sdnews.com\/?p=316133"},"modified":"2022-10-18T11:38:24","modified_gmt":"2022-10-18T18:38:24","slug":"lmpd-awarded-100k-grant-to-deter-unsafe-behaviors-increase-safety-on-roads","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/test.sdnews.com\/es\/lmpd-awarded-100k-grant-to-deter-unsafe-behaviors-increase-safety-on-roads\/","title":{"rendered":"LMPD awarded $100K grant to deter unsafe behaviors, increase safety on roads"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"western\" align=\"left\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\">El <\/span>La Mesa Police Department has been awarded a $100,000 grant to deter unsafe behaviors and increase safety out on the roads.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" align=\"left\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">LMPD <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">will increase patrols throughout the community and provide other traffic safety programs to help reduce the number of serious injuries and deaths on roads. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" align=\"left\">\u201c<span style=\"font-family: Arial, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">This grant funding allows us to support our ongoing traffic safety efforts in the community,\u201d La Mesa Police Chief Ray Sweeney said. \u201cOur intent is to stop the most unlawful and dangerous behaviors that put people at risk and create an environment where everyone feels safe traveling.\u201d <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" align=\"left\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">The grant will provide additional programs and resources, including: <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" align=\"left\">\u2022 <span style=\"font-family: Arial, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">DUI checkpoints and patrols focused on stopping suspected impaired drivers. <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u2022 <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">High visibility distracted driving enforcement operations targeting drivers in violation of California\u2019s hands-free cell phone law. <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u2022 <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Enforcement operations focused on the most dangerous driver behaviors that put the safety of people biking or walking at risk. <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u2022 <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Enforcement operations focused on top violations that cause crashes: speeding, failure to yield, stop sign and\/or red-light running, and improper turning or lane changes. <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u2022 <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Community presentations on traffic safety issues such as distracted driving, impaired driving, speeding, bicycle and pedestrian safety. <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u2022 <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Collaborative enforcement efforts with neighboring agencies. <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u2022 <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Officer training and\/or recertification: Standard Field Sobriety Test (SFST), Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement (ARIDE) and Drug Recognition Expert (DRE). <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u2022 <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">The purchase of speed feedback signs that can be deployed throughout the community. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" align=\"left\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">The grant program will run through September 2023.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" align=\"left\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.<\/span><\/span><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The La Mesa Police Department has been awarded a $100,000 grant to deter unsafe behaviors and increase safety out on the roads.
