The Crest Cafe is celebrating 40 years in Hillcrest by hosting an anniversary party including a DJ, <\/span>pags<\/span>hoto <\/span>b<\/span>ooth, <\/span>F<\/span>ull <\/span>b<\/span>ar <\/span>y<\/span> appetizers. Representatives from the state, city and county will be on hand to celebrate <\/span>on Sept. 27 at 3 p.m<\/span>. <\/span>at 425 Robinson Ave. <\/span><\/p>\n

For the full week of <\/span>their<\/span> anniversary, 20% of our sales will be going to Casa De Luz <\/span>\u2014<\/span> a<\/span> local nonprofit that is a collective home for refugees who left their home country in search for a better life. <\/span><\/p>\n

The Crest Cafe opened in 1982. <\/span>They<\/span> are a San Diego native, Hispanic owner-operated third generation restaurant family. <\/span>Their<\/span> patriarch, Luis Moreno (1932-2017) known for his business acumen, generosity and exemplary work ethic, took ownership of the Crest Cafe in 1985. He along with his daughter Cecelia Moreno continued to build this neighborhood staple through hard work and community commitment. Currently, the restaurant is operated by Moreno, <\/span>C<\/span>ousin Chef Ruben and his son Enrique Medina, marking the third generation. <\/span><\/p>\n

Both the owners and employees are firm believers of giving back to the community. The Crest Cafe is a long-time active member of the Hillcrest Business Association, California Restaurant Association; founding donors of the Hillcrest Pride Flag and soon to be renovated Hillcrest sign. <\/span>They<\/span> have been a participant since its inception of The Center Dining out for Life. <\/span><\/p>\n

The Crest Cafe is humbled and grateful to have kept its doors open during unprecedented challenges.
