The $612,000 men\u2019s professional tennis tournament gets underway Saturday, Sept.17 at Barnes Tennis Center, 4490 W. Point Loma Blvd.<br \/>\nSvajda, a two-time Boys\u2019 18s national champion (2019, 2021), turned professional in 2019. He is currently ranked No. 374 in the Pepperstone ATP Singles Rankings after reaching a career-high No. 306 this past August. He has spent most of 2022 competing in ATP Challenger Tour and International Tennis Federation World Tennis Tour events in the United States and Canada.<br \/>\n\u201cObviously, I am very excited to participate in the main draw of the San Diego Open ATP 250 for the first time in my career.\u00a0It will be very special to have my family and friends at the Barnes Tennis Center to support me in my hometown event,\u201d Svajda said. \u201cMore importantly, I want to thank tournament director Ryan Redondo for providing me this opportunity.\u201d<br \/>\nDuring his career, Svajda has made three US Open appearances. His best result there was in 2021 when he defeated Italy\u2019s Marco Cecchinato 7-6 (6), 5-7, 6-4, 6-4 in the opening round before falling in the second round to another Italian, Jannik Sinner 6-3, 7-6 (2), 6-7 (6), 6-4.<br \/>\n\u201cWe are very happy to give a young up-and-coming player like Zachary Svajda the opportunity to play an ATP Tour-level tournament in his hometown,\u201d said Redondo. \u201cIt\u2019s going to be very entertaining to watch him complete in the main draw next week at Barnes Tennis Center.\u201d<br \/>\nThe 2022 San Diego Open ATP 250 tournament will feature a 28-player singles main draw and 16-team doubles draw. The event offers a total of $612,000 in prize money and tournament champions will receive 250 ATP ranking points.<br \/>\nMain draw matches will begin at 11:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 19. The tournament will conclude on Sunday, Sept. 25 with the singles and doubles championships. There will also be a 16-player qualifying singles draw with qualifying rounds beginning at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 17, and Sunday, Sept. 18. Four qualifiers advance to the main draw.<br \/>\nTickets for the 2022 San Diego Open ATP 250 are on sale at <a href=\"https:\/\/facebook.us9.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=7ccd3a36139c4733b0e5084ca&amp;id=ded6cccfdd&amp;e=dcd9b27ce5\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">https:\/\/barnessdopen.com\/<\/a>.<br \/>\nBarnes Tennis Center will also play host to the San Diego Open WTA 500 from Saturday, Oct. 8 through Sunday, Oct. 16.
