{"id":314169,"date":"2022-08-11T10:51:07","date_gmt":"2022-08-11T17:51:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sdnews.com\/?p=314169"},"modified":"2022-08-11T11:12:51","modified_gmt":"2022-08-11T18:12:51","slug":"ukf-to-celebrate-half-a-century-of-martial-arts-tradition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/test.sdnews.com\/es\/ukf-to-celebrate-half-a-century-of-martial-arts-tradition\/","title":{"rendered":"UKF to celebrate half a century of martial arts tradition"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"western\" align=\"left\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">La Mesa-based United Karate Federation will be celebrating half a century of martial arts tradition at its sold-out 50th anniversary gala on Saturday, Aug. 27, at Bethel Baptist Church, beginning at 2 p.m. The event will highlight and celebrate UKF\u2019s rich 50-year history.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" align=\"left\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The gala will recognize and honor UKF Founder and Head Instructor- Orned \u201cChicken\u201d Gabriel, his Mother \u2013 the late Billie Nelson (Mother of the UKF), the late Steve \u201cNasty\u201d Anderson, and other UKF students. Also being recognized is Chicken\u2019s senior instructor, the late Grandmaster Richard (Dick) Willett. The evening will include an awards and belt promotion ceremony.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" align=\"left\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Guests will be treated to a gourmet dinner and a day of entertainment. Live music will be performed by renowned harpist, Mariea Antoinette, vocalist Judith Malone, and The Men for Christ singing group. Martial arts demonstrations will be performed by UKF students and other martial artists from other styles, like Eric Lee \u2013 \u201cThe King of Kata.\u201d The gala will be capped off by speeches from UKF founders and leaders highlighting UKF\u2019s history, vision, and future mission of providing value to San Diego and its surrounding communities.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" align=\"left\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Donations are still being accepted to fund UKF\u2019s underprivileged youth program.
