The San Diego Padres have acquired left-handed reliever\u00a0Josh Hader\u00a0from the Milwaukee Brewers in exchange for\u00a0LHP\u2019s Taylor Rogers\u00a0and\u00a0Robert Gasser,\u00a0RHP Dinelson Lamet\u00a0and\u00a0OF Esteury Ruiz, president of baseball operations and general manager\u00a0A.J. Preller\u00a0announced on Aug. 1.<\/p>\n
Over 37 appearances this season, the 28-year-old Hader has converted a Major League-best 29 saves (31 opp., 93.5 SV%) with a 4.24 ERA (16 ER, 34.0 IP) and 59 strikeouts to just 12 walks.\u00a0He recorded 40 consecutive scoreless appearances from Aug. 1, 2021 to June 5, 2022, tying him with HOU\u2019s Ryan Pressly for the longest such streak in Major League history.\u00a0Hader was named NL Reliever of the Month for April after going 10-for-10 in save opportunities (9.1 IP, 2 H, 4 BB, 15 SO).\u00a0He currently ranks second among all Major League relievers in SO\/9.0 IP (15.62), trailing only the Mets\u2019 Edwin Diaz (18.14).<\/p>\n
In 2021, Hader was named NL Reliever of the Year for the third time in his career (2018-19) after going 4-2 with a 1.23 ERA (8 ER, 58.2 IP) and 34 saves in 60 relief appearances.\u00a0He led all Major League relievers last season in save percentage (97.1%, 34-of-35) and SO\/9.0 IP (15.65) while his 102 strikeouts ranked 4th.<\/p>\n
A four-time NL All-Star (2018-19, 2021-22), Hader has gone 17-17 with 125 saves, a 2.48 ERA (87 ER, 316.1 IP), 0.88 WHIP, .148 opponents AVG and 541 strikeouts in 269 career games.\u00a0Since making his debut with the Brewers in 2017, he leads all Major League relievers in strikeouts (541), SO\/9.0 IP (15.39), WHIP, opponents AVG, OBP (.240) and OPS (.539).\u00a0He has appeared in 11 postseason games in his career with a 1.88 ERA (3 ER, 14.1 IP), 0.84 WHIP (9 H, 3 BB) and 23 strikeouts.<\/p>\n
Hader was originally selected by the Baltimore Orioles in the 19th round of the 2012 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of Old Mill High School (Md.).\u00a0He was subsequently traded to the Houston Astros for Bud Norris on July 13, 2013, then to the Brewers on July 30, 2015 as part of the Carlos Gomez deal.<\/p>\n
