The theme for this virtual show was “Rebirth.” The live-streaming video runway showcased the garments from the designers’ collections and the Fashion Redux finalists.

Before showing each collection a brief video was shown of the designers discussing the concept behind their designs and why they chose that particular theme.

Third place went to Jenny Quach, who was inspired by “Alice in Wonderland,” and called her collection The Garden Gathering. She said that she loved the idea of strolling through a forest in her puff sleeve dress with a little pinafore over it and ready for a tea party. “I wanted to create pieces that were very soft and feminine but still pull you back to your youth.”

Marine Weiss was awarded second place and chose Celestial Interlude as her theme. She said that “The Myth of Cupid” was born from Chaos so she wanted to create order and beauty. The white color represents effervescence just like a bride’s dress or the snow. Weiss likes the idea of capturing a precise moment of life.

First place went to Hudson Ederhardt who created ready-to-wear men’s garments. He was inspired by the silhouette of World War ll uniforms in utilitarian streetwear. The collection was made from durable materials so they would last multiple seasons. The color palette was monochromatic to allow the clothes to fit in any wardrobe.

The Golden Scissors Fashion Show continued with Kimono Reimagined a collaborative exhibition between Mesa fashion students and Visions Art Museum. Together, they took apart the kimonos and then refashioned and redesigned them to become modern garments. The show was exhibited and performed live at the Japanese Friendship Garden in Balboa Park and then replayed during the evening.

The People’s Choice Award went to Hayden Mercado who called his collection Royal Exaggeration. First place for Millinery went to Karla Espinoza, Smart Casual daywear went to Timmithea Leeds, Sustainability Upcycling went to Dylan Oliveri, Fashion Illustration went to Shireen Hazou, the Child Dress Project went to Elizabeth Gibbons, and the Rebirth Theme went to Estefania Cazessus.

This year, they recognized the stellar work of certain students as a “Fashion Star.” Certificates were given for the well-deserved work of these fashion students.
