The Point Loma High football banquet was postponed several times before finally taking place at Tom Ham’s Lighthouse on Harbor Island.<\/p>\n

Pointer football stars Chase Lowary left, and Gerry Solares were honored at the recent team banquet at Tom Ham’s Lighthouse. Lowary received the Jimmie Howard Semper Fi Award for his never-ending energy and effort while Solares earned the Bennie Edens Award for the player who most embodies the characteristics the famed coach valued in his players. The Jimmie Howard Trophy honors Jimmie, a Marine who received the Congressional Medal of Honor for saving many men under his command in Vietnam when they were greatly outnumbered by Viet Cong. He retired here in Point Loma and became a varsity football assistant under famed coach Bennie Edens. The award goes to a player “you would most like to go to war with.”<\/p>\n
