The final bell will ring for graduating seniors at La Jolla Country Day School this Friday, June 2, at 3:30 p.m. as 83 students cross the stage to commence their post-high school years.
While every single senior will hit the college dorms this fall, only 41 percent are staying in California and only 8 percent will remain in San Diego. Four students will attend San Diego State University and three will head to University of California, San Diego.
One senior, Kate Wright, will cross the Atlantic to study biochemistry at Oxford University. Numerous students will begin their next step on the East Coast. Two students will attend Yale; two have been accepted at the University of Pennsylvania; three will make their home at Duke University and one will attend Dartmouth College.
George Prizker will give the commencement speech. A talented tennis player who recently performed in the school’s pop-rock choral performance, Prizker embodies all that Country Day stands for: a scholar, artist and athlete, said Mary Jane Greene, co-director of college counseling.
“At La Jolla Country Day, students have the opportunity to explore the arts and the athletics without feeling pigeonholed into a certain mold,” Prizker said.
Prizker will attend Wesleyan University in the fall, where he was recruited to play tennis.
Country Day will also hold its lower school promotion on Tuesday, June 6, at 10 a.m. and its middle school promotion on Wednesday, June 7, at 4 p.m.
Eighth-graders Alexandra Castillejos and Andrew Reisfeld of La Jolla will receive the Faculty Prize for representing the ideals and spirit of the school.
