The enormous giraffe, which was awarded first place in the Ocean Beach 2009 Christmas Parade, will represent both the legacy of the Class of 1960 and that of one tech-savvy La Jolla family. Lindsay Lawler, who created the giraffe in 2005, will operate the robot with the assistance of some of his family members who helped to create it. Lindsay’s aunt and class of 1960 cheerleader Sandy Shrosbree will ride the giraffe along with several of her classmates. Sandy’s son, Boone Brabon, and grandson, George Brabon, will work with Lindsay during the parade to operate the giraffe. George Brabon, and LJHS senior and president of the school’s robotics club, will continue his family’s LJHS legacy and graduate this year, 50 years after his grandmother. The LJHS Vikings will take on the James Madison High School Warhawks on Nov. 12 at 6:30 p.m. on the LJHS Field. The halftime parade will begin approximately between 7:30 p.m. and 8 p.m., where Russell will be featured alongside other alumni class cars and floats.

LA JOLLA — The La Jolla High School (LJHS) Class of 1960 Homecoming Committee will feature a 17-foot fully functional robotic giraffe named “Russell” as its entry in the LJHS Nov. 12 Homecoming parade this year.
