The Peninsula Community Planning Board (PCPB) is encouraging community members to run for a vacant position on the board. Applications are currently being accepted to fill a vacancy left by Kathryn Rhodes. Rhodes resigned her post to work with other community organizations.
The board officially acknowledged the vacancy at its April 17 meeting, setting in motion the process to seat a new member. The board has about 90 days to do so, according to the board’s bylaws.
The remainder of the vacant term runs through March 31, 2009.
Rather than scheduling a special election of voters, the board will likely fill the vacancy through an election by the board’s own members.
“We want to fill the vacancy by June,” said PCPB chair Chuck Mellor.
To be eligible, an applicant must be at least 18 years old and be a resident of or operate a business located in Point Loma, according to the PCPB bylaws. The applicant must also have attended one of the last 12 regular board meetings.
The new member would join other new members elected this year, including Mellor, Scott Brown, Jim Lester, Donna Kaup and Shelly Kilbourne McGee.
The PCPB meets every third Thursday of the month at the Hervey\/Point Loma Branch Library, 3701 Voltaire St.
