A 15-year old girl remains hospitalized with serious head injuries after a motorcyclist struck her as she tried to cross the intersection of West Point Loma Boulevard and Nimitz Boulevard on Monday, Nov. 19, at about 6:15 p.m., police said.
Three teenage girls were crossing against a do-not-walk signal when a truck in the left lane of West Point Loma Boulevard slowed and stopped to allow the girls to cross, according to reports.
The stopped truck blocked the view of a motorcyclist riding in the lane to the right of the truck.
The motorcyclist struck one of the girls as she stepped out from in front of the vehicle, said Sgt. Jeff Fellows with the San Diego Police Department.
The collision knocked both the girl and the motorcyclist to the ground, and both were taken to the UCSD Medical Center, according to reports.
The girl suffered head injuries and remains in serious condition, Fellows said. Medical personnel placed the girl into a drug-induced coma, he said.
Fellows said emergency personnel usually induce a coma when victims suffer serious head injuries.
Fellows said no criminal charges have been filed pending further investigation.
