Sanders will discuss city budget at Taylor Library
Mayor Jerry Sanders is coming to Pacific Beach to hold a town hall meeting to discuss and answer questions from the community about the fiscal year 2009 budget.
The meeting will be held at the Earl & Birdie Taylor Library, 4275 Cass St., Tuesday, April 22, from 6 to 7 p.m.
The meeting is the fourth of eight town hall meetings organized in each council district to give residents the chance to question Sanders and his staff about the city’s budget.

Group selling tiles for Kate Sessions Park
The Friends of Kate Sessions Park is organizing a fundraiser to support efforts to make improvements and enhancements to the park.
The group is selling tiles that will be set into the wall behind the park’s playground. Purchasers can engrave a personal message that will become part of the park’s history.
Prices for the tiles vary depending on the size.

Police looking for Isuzu SUV used in hit-and-run
Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a man wanted in connection with a hit-and-run in the early morning hours Tuesday, April 1, on the 1300 block of Garnet Avenue.
Reports originally described the vehicle as a silver Jeep Grand Cherokee, but has been revised and is now believed to be a newer silver Isuzu SUV. The suspect vehicle will have front-end damage.
Monica Mun\u00c3\u00b5z, media services manager with the San Diego Police Department, said the men, Salvatore Defranco, 21, and Damon Seamons, 24, were having a verbal disagreement while in the street when they were struck by the vehicle. Defranco suffered serious head injuries and Seamons sustained minor cuts and scrapes.
Crime Stoppers is offering up to $1,000 for information leading to an arrest. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477. Callers can remain anonymous.<\/p>\n
PB Historical Society meets Saturday
The Pacific Beach Historical Society is hosting a presentation, “Pacific Beach ” In The Beginning,” at its meeting Saturday, April 19, at the Earl & Birdie Taylor Library, 4275 Cass St., at 1 p.m.

Man stabs roommate with samurai sword
Police arrested a man for stabbing his roommate in the chest with a samurai sword during a fight at their residence in the 1000 block of Law Street.
According to police reports, the victim suffered a non-life-threatening wound in the upper right side of his chest and was transported to a hospital for treatment. The suspect was arrested at the scene. Both men are in their 20s.<\/p>\n
Woman displays gun, robs 7-Eleven
A woman entered the 7-Eleven located at 4527 Mission Bay Drive, lifted her jacket to display a handgun and demanded cash. The suspect was described as a 30-year-old white female wearing a black beanie with gray stripes and a black jacket with gray stripes.
She fled on foot with an undetermined amount of money.<\/p>\n
Coastlands Church features ‘Legends of Surfing’
To celebrate its move from Pacific Beach Elementary to Bayview Terrace Elementary, Coastland Church is inviting the community to join its members for a “Legends of Surfing” presentation Sunday, April 20, and an upcoming community service project. Services begin at 9:30 a.m.
The “Legends of Surfing” will feature Skip Frye, Larry Gordon and Matt Beachum.
“So we have two of the older guys representing the older generation,” said Coastlands Pastor Evan Lauer. “Matt, he’s a young professional, and Larry and Skip are legends. They’re going to be talking about their surf careers and surf history and also their relationship with God and how the two have gone together.”
The community service project is scheduled for Sunday, April 27. The congregation and volunteers will fix up the Bayview Terrace campus.
“We’ll get a to-do list from the principal and the custodian, doing landscaping, painting or whatever needs to be done on the campus,” Lauer said.
