Filner is under fire because of allegtions of sexual harrassment involving at least 18 female accusers and a so-called “pay-to-play” scenario involving two local developers.
Other businesses serving as recall-petition pickup sites include the Imperial Barber Shop in Encanto, O’Brien’s Pub in Kearny Mesa and the Money Hut in Linda Vista.
Laing said that as of Aug. 20, more than 400 petitions (with 10 signatures apiece) have been returned to the campaign headquarters, and area volunteer directors are reporting thousands more signatures have been collected but not yet turned in to campaign headquarters. To qualify as a ballot measure, recall-petition supports must collect about 102,000 signatures by Sept. 29.
“Because of the decentralized nature of the campaign — with more than 10,000 petitions currently circulating (based on the number of petitions picked up or downloaded from the RecallBobFilner.com site) — we cannot provide an accurate, current count of signatures at any given time,” said Laing.
“Going forward, we’ll provide a tally of signatures received at campaign headquarters each Monday, Wednesday and Friday,” she said.
Laing said the campaign is urging volunteers to return signed petitions to their area director or to campaign headquarters at 7185 Navajo Road, Suite P, San Diego, 92119.
