Visit 16 of your favorite local restaurants and bars in one shot when The Coast of Pacific Beach Restaurant Walk returns Tuesday, May 13. The self-guided culinary event showcases local establishments while raising money for Discover Pacific Beach’s street cleaning and trash pickup programs.
“It’s a chance to support local business, help out the community, and a perfect excuse to go out on a weeknight,” said Sara Berns of Discover Pacific Beach. “This is a great event because you can come out and taste some of PB’s newest restaurants as well as your old favorites, and you don’t have to feel guilty because you’ll burn the calories as you stroll down the coast.”
For the cost of a ticket, diners can stroll to participating restaurants, which run on Mission Boulevard from Pacific Beach Drive north to Diamond Street and along Garnet Avenue from the beach east to Cass Street, and sample a variety of their favorite dishes. The event also promotes the restaurants and businesses of Pacific Beach.
“It’s for a good cause, and it’s a good way to be able to taste a little without making a big commitment,” said Fernando Diaz of Nick’s at the Beach. “It’s a win-win.”
Diaz said that the event draws both first-time visitors and regular patrons and that this year Nick’s will be sampling grilled salmon and quesadillas.
Debuting at this year’s restaurant walk are eateries new to Pacific Beach, including Pacific Beach Shore House and Olde City Grill. As well, guests will be able to take a free bay cruise on the historic Bahia Belle sternwheeler ship, which leaves from the Catamaran Hotel.
Discover Pacific Beach is the area’s business improvement district. It is a nonprofit organization dedicated to revitalizing and promoting Pacific Beach and is involved in several fundraisers and events throughout the year, including the Coast of Pacific Beach Restaurant Walk, BeachFest and the holiday parade.
Last year, according to Berns, about 700 tickets to the restaurant walk were sold and the more than $2,000 raised went to street and beach clean-up programs.
