{"id":297522,"date":"2015-07-30T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2015-07-30T07:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sdnews.com\/education-notebook-mission-bay-high-baccalaureate-diploma-recipients\/"},"modified":"2015-07-30T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2015-07-30T07:00:00","slug":"education-notebook-mission-bay-high-baccalaureate-diploma-recipients","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/test.sdnews.com\/es\/education-notebook-mission-bay-high-baccalaureate-diploma-recipients\/","title":{"rendered":"Education Notebook: Mission Bay High Baccalaureate diploma recipients"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Mission Bay High Congratulations to Mission Bay High School Class of 2015 Full International\u00a0Baccalaureate diploma recipients: Whitney Bowyer, Heidi Emmengger, Vanessa Figueroa, Teresa Jackson, Katia Kappele, Ariana Linley, Hannah Lobato, Jackson Menezes, Owen Nelson, Nayeli Nova, Bhakti Patel, Maria Reyes Barajas, Adriana Rocha, Milton Rodriguez, Nickolas Schoettle, Priscilla Tamborini, Colin Tandy, and Thanh Thanh Tran.<br \/>\nThese students have run the\u00a0academic\u00a0marathon at MBHS, taking a substantial number of rigorous college-level, weighted classes, completing 150 CAS\u00a0hours (community, action and service) and completing a 4,000 word research\u00a0paper on a topic within the math, science, or history field of study.<br \/>\nThese\u00a0students\u00a0had to score high enough cumulatively in all coursework and\u00a0essays\u00a0to receive the full IB diploma. All essays, classwork, and tests are graded\u00a0by the International Baccalaureate Organization. Recently the IB Organization conducted independent research about the rate\u00a0of students who earn the full diploma and immediately attend a four-year\u00a0university. The research boasted that 85 percent of students worldwide who earn\u00a0the diploma go directly to a four-year college or university.<br \/>\nAt MBHS, 100 percent of the students, for the previous two years who attempted the full\u00a0diploma, went straight to a four-year college or university regardless of\u00a0whether they received the full IB diploma or not. All of the full diploma\u00a0candidates earned certificates in all or some of their college-level IB\u00a0courses.\u00a0<br \/>\nAt Mission Bay\u00a0High\u00a0School, over half of all juniors and seniors take one or\u00a0more IB classes, with the percentage growing every year. With the expansion\u00a0of AP class offerings as well, students have many opportunities to\u00a0challenge themselves in areas of interest and enhance their preparation for\u00a0the higher level IB coursework.\u00a0 St. Paul\u2019s\u00a0Lutheran\u00a0School<br \/>\n&#8211; St. Paul\u2019s\u00a0Lutheran\u00a0School of Pacific Beach recently announced the addition of Meredith Binnie as their new principal.\u00a0<br \/>\nA native\u00a0Southern\u00a0Californian, Binnie moved to PB from Lamb of God Lutheran in Las Vegas where she served as vice principal and athletic director. She has also taught primary grades and was a finalist for the Pacific Southwest District Educator of the Year.<br \/>\n&#8220;I am thrilled to be a part of an amazing school and the St. Paul\u2019s family, as well as this wonderful community,&#8221; Binnie said. &#8211; St. Paul\u2019s is now enrolling for the 2015-2016 school year.
